Introducting: Sonneman “A Way of Light”
December 04, 2015Founded in 2003, Sonneman “A Way of Light” is rooted in achieving functionality, while paying tribute to contemporary lighting design. Through Robert Sonneman, founder and world renowned designer, the lighting company features an array of decorative lighting that combines clean lines with form and functionality.
Acclaimed designer, Robert Sonneman, showed interest in art at a young age. He attended Rhodes School, where he studied art, and took life classes at the Art Students League. At age nineteen, he applied to work as the sole employee at a George Kovacs lighting store. Before founding his own company, he started a lighting factory for Kovacs. At this factory, he designed and built a line of lamps based on his aesthetics.
Sonneman is an iconic designer of the modern era. His designs are classics and are still being manufactured today. The Orbiter Lamp, one of Sonneman’s first products, fully encompasses his aesthetic of functional and mechanically based designs.
