“Create an environment of love, live with passion and make our most existing dreams come true.” –Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders is a renowned European designer with a large presence in the field of architectural, interior, and industrial design. Known for his iconic piece, Knotted Chair, Wanders is currently the Art Director of Powerhouse Studio, as well as the Art Director and Co-Founder of Moooi. Powerhouse Studio has designed over 1,700 projects for private clients and premium brands—including Alessi, Flos, Swarovski, etc. Moooi has an international presence in 79 countries—its quirky, eccentric, yet inspired style is a reflection of Wander’s ideology of bringing the human touch back to design. By mixing innovative materials and techniques with references to well-known historical styles and archetypes, users can easily connect to the pieces allowing them to enjoy them for a long time, and in doing so, creating sustainable surroundings. This holistic approach to design has gained Wanders recognition worldwide. He was listed in Business Week Europe “25 Leaders of Change” (2002) and awarded “Designer of the Year” by Elle Decoration in 2006.

Wander’s quirky and eccentric style can be seen in his boldest interior project at the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht Hotel. Referred to as “Alice in Amsterdam”, the design of the interior assimilates an experience to Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. The eccentric and whimsical design of the hotel can be seen in the images below.
