What to expect from Energy Star Certified Lighting

Energy Star Certified signifies that a product has met strict energy efficient guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency. From these items, you can expect optimal energy efficiency coupled with exceptional features.

Let’s take a look at what can be expected from different lighting products that are Energy Star Certified.

Light Bulbs

Light bulbs with this certification use 70-90% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. They also last 10-25 times longer and can save up to $80 in electricity costs over its lifetime. 70-90% less heat is produced in comparison to incandescent bulbs, saving you on air conditioning costs.

Ceiling fans that hold an Energy Star label are 60% more efficient than conventional fan/light units. They also save more than $15 per year on utility bills.

Light Fixtures

Compared to traditional light fixtures that use incandescent bulbs, light fixtures that have this label use about 70-90% less energy and heat and last 10-25 times longer. These fixtures also distribute light in a more efficient and effective manner. LED Lighting

LED lighting with the Energy Star label certifies that the item holds high quality and performance in the following areas:

  • Color Quality – To ensure quality of color produced by LED currently and overtime, there are 6 different requirements for this field to qualify for the label.
  • Light Output – Guidelines are set for equivalency between LEDs. Requirements are also set to ensure a minimum amount of light is produced, and distribution of light illuminates necessary area.
  • Satisfaction – Energy Star labeled LED are verified to comply with more than 20 separate industry standards and procedures. These lights have also been tested to operate in environments similar to your home and for extended periods of time to stand by lifetime claims.
